A Message From Alex Kais
Hello! First off I would like to thank you on behalf of the Rotaract Club of Windsor (1918) for taking the time to check out our new website! Special thank you to our Director of Communications Brad Ouellette. What a year it has been! It feels like only yesterday my sister Cynthia and myself were at the world peace summit in April hosted in our very own hometown Windsor Ontario. We have strong ties to the family of Rotary, as our family in Jordan is deeply involved in Rotary. Rotary has always been a part of me and now I would like to share it with you.
When we found out that the Rotaract at the University of Windsor was dormant for some time we decided to bring it back to life. 5 months later, in August the University of Windsor recognized our Rotaract Club as a university and community based club. Since then our club has participated and organized many events. For more information please read our club report for the 2008-2009 academic year. I would like to give you some information about Rotaract itself:
Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are either community or university based, and a local Rotary club sponsors them. This makes them true “partners in service” and key members of the family of Rotary. As one of Rotary’s most significant and fastest-growing service programs, with more than 7,000 clubs in about 163 countries and geographical areas, Rotaract has become a worldwide phenomenon. How does it work? All Rotaract efforts begin at the local, grassroots level, with members addressing their communities’ physical and social needs while promoting international understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service.
I have had the privilege of working with this great group of students who really know the meaning of service above self is. Although this club has only 16 members it has accomplished quite a bit and I look forward to working with them and our new members. Our Rotaract Club normally meets on Sundays at 1:30pm in the CAW student centre at the University of Windsor. So if you are interested in getting involved in your community and want to make a difference then you have come to the right pace! Please email us at rotaract@uwindsor.ca or check out our website for more information on how to get involved.
Yours in Rotary,
Alex Kais
Rotaract President
